Guillaume Apollinaire was not a Futurist, but he was briefly linked to the Futurist movement, largely because the unusual graphic design of his poems expressed words-in-freedom and appeared to liberate language in the ways expounded by the Futurists. His collaboration with the Futurists ended because of personal misunderstandings. Apollinaire fought in World War I and was wounded in 1916.
