This hagiographic text tells the story of the life and work of Mikhail Glukharev (1792–1847), who took the monastic name Makarii. As a missionary to the Altai Mountains in southwest Siberia, Makarii played an important role in the expansion of the Russian Orthodox Church into Siberia in the early 19th century.
