Description
Ilya Yastrebov (1867–1928), who later became Archbishop Innokenty of Astrakhan, was a scholar and professor at several Russian theological academies. As a student, he chose to study the missionary efforts of Vladimir, Archbishop of Kazan and Sviyazhsk (born Ivan Stepanovich Petrov, 1828–97). Vladimir served as head of the Altay Spiritual Mission during the period 1867–83 and later became bishop of the Siberian dioceses of Biysk and Tomsk before his appointment to the archbishopric.
