The hagiographical work presented here recounts the life of Makarii (born Mikhail Yakovlevich Glukharev, 1792‒1847), a noted linguist and scholar who founded the Altay (or Altai) Spiritual Mission in Siberia in 1830. The work was issued in 1905 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the mission. Makarii taught at several seminaries in European Russia before asking to be sent as a missionary to Siberia.
